Last Updated: January 2025

1. Introduction

Welcome to Athlete Studio. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy will inform you as to how we look after your personal data when you visit our website and tell you about your privacy rights and how the law protects you.

2. Data We Collect

We may collect, use, store and transfer different kinds of personal data about you which we have grouped together as follows:

  • Identity Data: Includes first name, last name, username or similar identifier.
  • Contact Data: Includes email address.
  • Technical Data: Includes internet protocol (IP) address, your login data, browser type and version, time zone setting and location, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform and other technology on the devices you use to access this website.
  • Usage Data: Includes information about how you use our website, products and services.
  • Strava Data (Transient): We access your activity data via the Strava API solely for the purpose of generating your image. We do not store your Strava activities, maps, performance metrics, or history in our database. This data is processed in-memory and discarded immediately after the generation session.

3. AI Data Processing

Our service uses Google's Gemini API (Artificial Intelligence) to analyze your activity data and generate creative descriptions and images.

  • Data Transmission: Activity metrics (e.g., distance, time) are sent to our AI services to generate content. User-uploaded photos (only if you voluntarily provide them for style reference) may be processed by our image-generation pipeline to preserve identity. Photos may also be transmitted to an AI provider where required by the selected workflow.
  • No Model Training: Your personal data is not used to train the public AI models. We use enterprise-grade APIs with data privacy protections.
  • Transient Processing: Data sent to the AI (including uploaded photos used for reference) is used solely to fulfill your request. Retention (if any) is governed by our AI provider’s terms and our configured data controls.

4. How We Use Your Data

We will only use your personal data when the law allows us to. Most commonly, we will use your personal data in the following circumstances:

  • To provide the service of generating artistic visualizations of your activities.
  • To manage your account and relationship with us.
  • To improve our website, products/services, marketing or customer relationships.

5. Data Storage and Retention

We are a non-custodial service regarding your fitness data. We do not build a history of your activities. Any visualization generated is stored for caching purposes, but it does not contain retrievable raw activity data. Your Strava authentication tokens are stored securely in your browser (cookies) and are not persisted in our database.

6. Data Security

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorized way, altered or disclosed.

7. Third-Party Links

This website may include links to third-party websites, plug-ins and applications (such as Strava). Clicking on those links or enabling those connections may allow third parties to collect or share data about you. We do not control these third-party websites and are not responsible for their privacy statements.
